"The members give us the support we need for our important work - in the areas of mountain sports and nature conservation as well as youth work. Such a large number of members shows the high relevance of our work in society. I would also like to thank all 25,000 volunteers who work around 1.5 million hours a year for the Alpine Club," says the new Alpine Club President Gerald Dunkel-Schwarzenberger.
Proportion of women is growing steadily
A pleasing trend can also be seen in the age structure of the members: almost 30 per cent are younger than 30, which indicates a lively youth organisation within the association. With an average age of 42.8 years, the Alpine Club also reflects the diversity of age groups. The continuously increasing proportion of women at over 45 per cent also illustrates a positive development towards more gender diversity in the Alpine sector. A major concern of the Alpine Club in 2024 is the preservation of its 225 Alpine huts and extensive network of trails.
Mountain love unchecked
Overall, the current developments in the Austrian Alpine Club illustrate the continuing enthusiasm for the mountains and the need to protect and preserve them. With a wide range of activities and the commitment of its members, the association is committed to ensuring that future generations can also experience the beauty and challenges of Alpine nature.
