The Red Cross Learning Island in Traun is a special learning and support centre for children of primary school age who need additional support. Many of them grow up in challenging social or linguistic situations. The learning island offers individualised learning support, strengthens basic skills and creates an environment in which learning is fun and self-confidence can grow.

Structure, support and a place to feel at home

After school, the day in the learning island begins with a shared lunch. This is an important moment for the children to relax and settle down. This is followed by learning time, during which teachers and voluntary learning assistants support the children with homework, reading, maths, writing and language support. The day is supplemented by creative, sporting and playful activities that strengthen social skills and fulfil the learning day with joy. The learning island is therefore much more than just tutoring: it is a protected place where children are seen, encouraged and strengthened.

Why business partners are so important

In order for this valuable programme to be sustainable, it needs support from society and, in particular, from the business community. Companies that get involved make an active contribution to reducing educational disadvantage and giving young people better opportunities for the future. One example of such responsible behaviour is the company Födinger Bad Heizung Klima.

Födinger shows heart

With the words "The most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner ...", Födinger hosted an atmospheric Christmas market on 4 December. With punch, Christmas delicacies and a cosy get-together, a special fundraising campaign was launched in aid of Lerninsel: The company doubled every donation and gave everyone who donated at least 10 euros a Födi voucher for their very own Christmas tree.

The result is impressive: A total of €3,000 was raised, which Fritz and Leonardo Födinger were then able to hand over to the Red Cross learning island.

#It's great when a campaign like this succeeds in giving disadvantaged children the support they need to start a positive future.
