Flagship businesses play a special role in this regard, attracting visitors to the region and generating further economic value through their influence. Among these is the Hotel Freigold in Freistadt: with more than 45,000 overnight stays, this four-star hotel has become a key driver of tourism within just a few years.
From an ambitious project to a flagship establishment
Dietmar Hehenberger played a key role in shaping this development. He brought the hotel project to fruition and managed the Freigold as managing director for three years. Hehenberger is now retiring. And with his departure, a new chapter begins for the hotel.
The Hochreiter Group from Bad Leonfelden is taking over the Freigold in its entirety. Wolfgang and Petra Hochreiter were already on board as investors and strategic partners. In future, the group will also be responsible for day-to-day operations.
“Dietmar has done pioneering work and built up a first-class tourism business that is now of enormous importance to Freistadt and the entire Mühlviertel region,” emphasises Wolfgang Hochreiter. They intend to build on this foundation, working together with the existing team to develop the hotel further.
A tried-and-tested team, new impetus
Continuity is ensured above all by the team: all 80 staff members will be retained by the new owner. Operational management will in future be in the hands of the current hotel manager, Leopold Tröls, and Alexander Mitgutsch, who brings experience from a large hotel group.
For Freistadt and the Mühlviertel, this is about more than just a change of ownership at a hotel. It is about the further development of a business that attracts guests to the region, secures jobs and helps to further raise the profile of the Mühlviertel as a tourist destination. We think that’s #schongenial.
