They embody identity and cohesion. When traditional costumes, instruments and familiar marches fill the streets, one can really feel how closely tradition and community are intertwined. Especially at a time when social ties are often becoming more tenuous, music societies create spaces for genuine interaction and bring people together across age and professional boundaries.
Youth development and the transmission of values
In addition to their cultural significance, music societies play a central educational role. Many children and young people take their first musical steps here, learn an instrument and gain valuable stage experience. This involves far more than just sheet music and a sense of rhythm: team spirit, discipline, a sense of responsibility and perseverance are taught just as much as respect and mutual support. Volunteer officials, bandmasters and instructors invest countless hours in rehearsals and organisation – driven by the conviction that music strengthens people and builds community. This gives rise not only to concerts, but also to friendships for life.
The Bad Leonfelden Music Society as a living example
The Bad Leonfelden Music Society is a striking example of these values in action. For decades, it has played a key role in the town’s cultural life and has become an integral part of the events calendar. Wolfgang Hochreiter, managing director of the Hochreiter Group and long-standing chairman of the society, is deeply committed – not only in an organisational capacity, but also as an active player on the flugelhorn and trumpet.
“The Bad Leonfelden Music Society is far more than just a wind orchestra for our town. It is a place where people of all ages take on responsibility and create something lasting together. I play myself because music brings people together and inspires. I am particularly motivated to see how young people grow here and how strong our sense of community is. The society gives our town its identity, fosters connections and, for me, represents both a living sense of home and the future.”
A special highlight of this year’s programme is the 2026 Easter Concert.
This traditional concert promises a festive evening with a varied programme – ranging from classical wind music and symphonic works to modern arrangements. You can find all the details about the event at:
