Construction waste as a raw material of the future

Building materials recycling, Clarity, binder+Co

The construction industry is facing a paradigm shift: away from linear consumption and towards circular utilisation. Construction waste, excavated soil and road rubble account for more than half of all waste produced. At the same time, primary raw materials such as gravel and sand are becoming scarcer worldwide.

There is an enormous opportunity in this area of conflict: intelligent construction waste recycling allows valuable secondary raw materials to be recovered and returned to the economic cycle. This reduces environmental pollution, saves costs and secures the long-term supply of building materials.

The advantages of building material recycling at a glance

Recycling mineral building materials offers numerous ecological and economic benefits:

  • Conservation of natural resources: recycling concrete, bricks and other mineral materials reduces the extraction of sand, gravel and rock - valuable raw materials that are becoming increasingly scarce.
  • Reduction of landfill quantities: Building material recycling significantly reduces the amount of waste generated and thus relieves the burden on landfill sites.
  • Shorter transport routes: Recycled building materials can be processed and reused regionally - this saves CO₂ and logistics costs.
  • Wide range of possible uses: The recovered materials can be used in new construction products, e.g. as aggregates in concrete production or as base course material inroad construction.
  • Cost efficiency: Recycled materials are often a cheaper alternative to primary materials without having to compromise on quality.
  • Future-proof: Building material recycling is not only sustainable, but also makes economic sense - an important building block for sustainable construction.

binder+Co - technology for sustainable construction

The Austrian company Binder+Co AG is a sought-after supplier of machinery for processing bulk materials and building rubble. Together with its subsidiary Comec-Binder, it offers comprehensive solutions along the entire recycling process chain: from shredding, screening, wet processing and sorting to process water treatment. Particular attention is paid to the recovery and reuse of the water used, making the entire process not only efficient but also particularly resource-friendly.

Research for 100% recycling: the CDW Circle

As a project partner in the CDW Circle - an international innovation network - Binder+Co is actively involved in research into 100% construction waste recycling. The aim of the network is to enable a genuine circular economy in the construction industry through the extraction of high-quality secondary raw materials. Research, business and industry are working closely together to develop solutions for the future.

High-tech for the circular economy: CLARITY from Binder+Co

With the CLARITY sensor-based sorting system, Binder+Co is making an innovative contribution to the CDW Circle. The artificial intelligence-based technology enables precise separation of building materials such as concrete, bricks, wood, asphalt and metals - even visually similar materials such as asphalt and black gravel are reliably differentiated. Unlike conventional sorting systems, CLARITY uses not only a metal detector and colour cameras but also a neural network for intelligent material recognition. The response at the world's leading trade fair bauma in Munich was overwhelming, as the international construction industry is increasingly recognising the potential of sustainable technologies.

#schongenial when raw materials can be recovered from supposed waste.

It's nice to see so many positive things:
