For over six decades, backaldrin - The Kornspitz Company has stood for innovation, quality and regional ties. From a small family business, the company has developed into an internationally successful brand ambassador for the Austrian bakery trade. Now backaldrin is setting a strong example for the future at its headquarters in Asten: a state-of-the-art logistics centre is creating the basis for further growth.

#schongenial spoke to Peter Augendopler, owner of backaldrin.

#schongenial: Mr Augendopler, backaldrin can look back on more than 60 years of success. What was decisive for this path?

Peter Augendopler: Our success is based on passion, innovation and consistency. From the very beginning, we wanted to refine the best raw materials and create products that offer our customers real added value. In doing so, we have always remained true to our values of quality, reliability and the courage to innovate. As a family business, we think long-term, not in quarters.

#schongenial: Why was now the right time for the new logistics centre in Asten?

Peter Augendopler: Our company is constantly growing, and the logistical requirements increase with growth. Modern, efficient logistics is the backbone of a production company. The new centre is an important step towards continuing to offer the highest quality of service. And a clear commitment to the Asten site.

#schongenial: What does the project look like in concrete terms?

Peter Augendopler: A state-of-the-art logistics centre is being built on over 9,000 square metres, which will handle all incoming and outgoing goods. Twelve docking ramps ensure efficient processes and a 16 metre high hall complements our existing high-bay warehouse. The new building is connected to the old logistics centre via a so-called "spine".

We attach great importance to sustainability: photovoltaic modules are being installed on 4,400 square metres of roof space, the electricity from which we use ourselves. A large storage unit with 1.5 MWh covers peak times, supplemented by heat recovery and an air heat pump. The project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2026.

#schongenial: Why are you investing in Upper Austria, where many companies are moving abroad?

Peter Augendopler: Because my family has lived in the centre of Upper Austria for centuries and because the conditions here are right. We have well-trained skilled labour, a strong infrastructure and a reliable environment. Upper Austria is our home and we are happy to invest here.

#schongenial: What does the project mean for the future of backaldrin?

Peter Augendopler: It is a milestone. We are modernising our processes, creating jobs and securing the location for the long term. It is an investment in a successful future for our company, our employees and for the region.

#schongenial: Mr Augendopler, thank you for talking to us and all the best for the new logistics centre.

It's nice to see so many positive things:
