The inclusion of the former Roman Danube Limes in the UNESCO World Heritage List also opens up new opportunities for Danube tourism. This important honour enables the region to appeal to new target groups and open up international markets.
"Danube Cycle Path re.loaded" in Upper Austria
The boom in cycle tourism is also benefiting the Danube region. The "Danube Cycle Path re.loaded" project was launched to meet the increasing demand. This has created 15 new circular cycle routes that lead from the main route of the Danube Cycle Path into the surrounding countryside. These new routes are intended to appeal not only to experienced cyclists, but also to less sporty cyclists.
Trail running for a younger target group
The Danube region offers ideal conditions for trail runners, especially in spring and late autumn. The development of trail running offers not only appeals to young target groups, but also extends the tourist season. This brings the Upper Austrian Danube region one step closer to its goal of becoming a year-round tourist destination.
Real encounters and unforgettable holiday memories
In addition to the Danube Cycle Path, the rich cultural heritage along the Danube also connects the federal states of Upper Austria and Lower Austria. The shared history and authentic encounters with the locals are a highlight for many visitors. "Slow Trips" offer travellers the opportunity to discover extraordinary places, experience local life stories and encounter everyday culture. Innovative strategies as part of the EU project "Transdanube Travel Stories" aim to generate interest in the Danube region as a tourist destination and create unique memories.
