Mountain meadows are true treasure troves of nature. They were created centuries ago by clearing the mountain forest and to this day can only be maintained by labour-intensive manual work. This is precisely what makes them one of the most endangered habitats in Central Europe.

Up to 75 plant species grow on just 25 square metres, with a total of around 5,000 different organisms living there. This diversity makes the mountain meadows not only ecologically valuable, but also important for agriculture, tourism and forest conservation.

In order to preserve these biotopes, the Bergwiesn heign" association in Molln has been campaigning for over ten years. With success: thanks to tireless commitment, it has been possible to raise awareness of the need to protect mountain meadows and to manage specific areas on a permanent basis.

Sweating for a good cause

Helping hands are needed to keep the meadows in bloom. In addition to volunteers, companies also support the association with the mowing. This year, employees of Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich AG were also involved for the first time. With rakes and forks, they ensured that the meadows remained in full splendour. "The work is exhausting, but the insights gained make the day an unforgettable experience," reports Leonie Binder, Innovation Manager at the bank.

#wirmachtssozial

Behind this campaign is the initiative "#wirmachtssozial" of Raiffeisenlandesbank Upper Austria. Since 2023, employees have been able to dedicate an entire working day per year to social or ecological projects; paid and as part of a team. Whether with emergency services, in social institutions or, as here, in the hay harvest. More than 1,000 of these working days are channelled into around 50 projects throughout Upper Austria every year.

"#wirmachtssozial" is already genial because it allows employees to invest their working time in meaningful projects that make a sustainable contribution to people, nature and the region.
