Aces for biodiversity

What do tennis, bees and flower meadows have in common? In Upper Austria, quite a lot - at least according to Oberösterreichische Versicherung.

As part of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz, the company combines top sporting performance with a strong symbol for sustainability. Three initiatives demonstrate this: Success on the pitch can also benefit the environment, biodiversity and young people.

Flower meadows instead of bonus points

For the third time, the motto was: "Every ace - 1 m² of flower meadow". Oberösterreichische Versicherung donated flower meadow seeds to Upper Austrian municipalities for every ace played in the tournament - this year, the original 300 aces played were even increased to 1,000 m². The lucky winners: Pasching and Altenberg. Both municipalities will each receive seeds for 500 m² of flowering area to create valuable habitats for bees, butterflies and other pollinators. A sustainable gain - for nature, biodiversity and the townscape.

Trees that grow with children

Another initiative was launched as part of the same tournament series: Oberösterreichische Versicherung had trees planted for each ace - a total of 600 throughout Upper Austria. The first No Worries Forest was opened in Herzogsdorf. What was particularly nice was that the trees were planted together with primary school children, who not only moved soil, but also learnt about the forest and the importance of sustainable forestry. The campaign was supported by the GUUTE association and the school project "Our school forest", which actively involves pupils in the reforestation and care of the trees.

"We are not only giving something back to nature, but also giving our children the opportunity to experience and learn about nature in the forest," emphasised Othmar Nagl, CEO of Oberösterreichische Versicherung.

"Sustainability is not an additional programme for us, but part of our attitude as a regionally rooted company."

Honeycombs for the future

The smallest but perhaps most important environmental workers were also taken care of: bees. Under the motto "Every ace a honeycomb" Oberösterreichische Versicherung presented 700 honeycombs to young beekeepers - also as a result of the aces beaten in the tournament. The first handover was made to Tanja Humer, supported by the Upper Austrian Beekeeping Association. regional association for beekeeping. This not only makes it easier to start beekeeping, but also contributes to the protection and continued existence of the local bee population. A project with sustainability - and a future.

We think it's #schongenial how an ace tennis player makes the world a little better.
