Source: Gallup – State of the Global Workplace Report (2026). At first glance, Gallup’s latest State of the Global Workplace Report paints a rather critical picture of the world of work. Yet hidden within the figures lies an important, positive message: the situation is not set in stone; it can be shaped.

This is particularly evident when it comes to leadership. Gallup shows that managers have a huge influence on their teams’ engagement. Conversely, this means that companies have a clear lever they can use to specifically improve job satisfaction and performance. Investing in good leadership, coaching and clear communication can already bring about noticeable changes.

Engagement pays off

Another encouraging aspect is the clear link between engagement and business success. The report demonstrates that engaged employees are not only happier, but also work more productively, are absent less often and contribute more significantly to the company’s success. This insight is crucial because it shows that an employee-focused corporate culture is not a ‘nice-to-have’, but a genuine competitive advantage. Companies that take their employees seriously reap measurable benefits – both financially and culturally.

Change opens up new opportunities

The increasing willingness of many employees to change jobs can also be interpreted positively. It signals that employees today demand more autonomy and are prepared to actively seek better working conditions. This pressure is felt by companies and forces them to evolve. Issues such as work-life balance, meaningfulness and mental health are consequently coming more into focus. At the same time, there is a growing global awareness that well-being is a central component of good work.

Overall, the report shows that the challenges of the modern workplace are real, but they go hand in hand with new opportunities. Never before have companies had so much data and insight into what constitutes good work and how it can be achieved. This is precisely where the report’s true strength lies: it not only highlights problems but also points to ways of solving them.
