Religious Hospital Linz honoured for climate-friendly mobility

Best Practice Award, Mobility Award, Climate-friendly, Sustainability

The healthcare sector is responsible for around seven per cent of CO₂ emissions in Austria. To meet this challenge, we need committed institutions that set a good example. One of these institutions is the Ordensklinikum Linz, which was honoured with the Best Practice Award from the Ministry of Health in the mobility category for its innovative mobility initiatives.

Measures for climate-friendly mobility

The Ordensklinikum Linz is taking a variety of measures to promote climate-friendly forms of mobility. Car parking spaces have been converted into bicycle parking spaces and new covered and lockable areas have been created where e-bikes can be charged free of charge. Employees benefit from bike checks and repair workshops organised by experts. Co-operations with local specialist shops offer additional discounts, while a partnership with "city bike Linz" opens up further options for sustainable mobility. For those who are dependent on a car, there are discounted parking rates to support the formation of car pools.

These measures are already having an impact: the provision of these incentives and infrastructure is having a positive influence on employees' mobility behaviour.

"The initiatives specifically integrate climate-friendly and health-promoting forms of mobility into everyday working life," explains Walter Kneidinger, Managing Director of the Ordensklinikum Linz.

Health promotion and sustainability

The benefits of the initiatives go beyond climate protection. Regular exercise by cycling or walking increases the fitness and well-being of employees, which has a positive effect on their health. In the long term, the measures promote a conscious use of environmental resources and contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle.

Looking to the future

The award is an incentive for the Ordensklinikum Linz to further expand the initiatives. Ideas such as joint cycling excursions or further surveys of around 3,900 employees are intended to help drive sustainable change. The aim is to make not only hospital operations but also the everyday lives of employees more climate-friendly.

It's nice to see so many positive things:
