This innovative solution makes it possible to carry out medical examinations remotely, thereby reducing the burden on both patients and the healthcare system.
Medical care at the click of a mouse
Thanks to the use of state-of-the-art technology, senior citizens in residential homes can receive telemedical care without having to make the often arduous journey to hospital. Instead, both patients and doctors "travel" to the ward round at the click of a mouse. This solution not only makes life much easier for older people, but also relieves the burden on emergency services, which are currently under considerable pressure.
"With the pilot project, we can provide remote care to senior citizens as easily as possible,"
explains Prim. Dr Matthias Kölbl, Head of the Emergency Outpatient Department at the Ordensklinikum Linz.
State-of-the-art technology for precise diagnoses
The telemedicine system offers numerous medical functions. With the help of an 8K camera, high-resolution images can be analysed remotely. In addition, a mobile technology tower enables examinations such as ECGs or ultrasounds to be carried out under medical supervision. Even heart and lung functions can be checked remotely.
"The Ordensklinikum Linz combines state-of-the-art technologies with the experience of our staff to ensure the best possible care,"
emphasises Dr Michael Girschikofsky, Medical Director of the hospital.
Complementing traditional treatment
Telemedicine does not replace face-to-face examinations, but is a valuable addition - especially for residents suffering from dementia. The ability to carry out follow-up examinations in familiar surroundings significantly reduces stress for patients.
Since the start of the test phase on 22 October 2024, the system has been successfully used on a ward in the senior citizens' centre. Based on the positive experience, it is to be rolled out to all 120 residents over the course of the year. "All in all, we have already saved patients hours of ambulance journeys," says Prim. Kölbl.
