A total of five refreshment stations along the route provided the necessary sustenance, one of which was once again located at Pleschingersee in Linz. There, courtesy of Sparkasse OÖ, drinks and healthy snacks were on offer so that participants could top up their energy reserves. The exceptional heat posed particular challenges for both riders and the organisers. To ensure everyone’s safety, paramedics and a support bus were stationed along the route for any athletes who found the strain too much.
Despite the extreme conditions, all participants reached the finish line at Vienna City Hall safely, where the tour came to a celebratory close.
Alongside the sporting achievement, the spirit of community was once again at the heart of the event. The participants supported one another throughout the entire route and, together, sent a powerful message in support of children with congenital heart defects.
“The athletes achieved something extraordinary at this year’s Tour de Herz. This made it all the more important for us to offer them a place here in Upper Austria where they could rest briefly and refuel. With the refreshment station at Lake Pleschinger, we are delighted to contribute to this important initiative,” says Herbert Auer, Chairman of the Board of Anteilsverwaltung Sparkasse OÖ.
Having raised 263,309 euros, the Tour de Herz was once again a resounding success. This will fund around 50 life-saving heart operations for children in developing countries.
