The app is currently in its final testing phase and is designed to help people prepare for, respond to and recover from crisis situations. Users receive personalised risk assessments, checklists for stocking up on supplies, and specific recommendations for action in a range of scenarios – from power cuts to natural disasters.
REWE Group focuses on preparedness rather than uncertainty
Particularly noteworthy is the role played by REWE Group Austria. The company has long since ceased to view crisis preparedness merely as the responsibility of public authorities or emergency services, but also as a social responsibility of major employers and infrastructure partners.
Robert Nagele, BILLA Board Member, explains: “As a retail company, our responsibility extends far beyond supplying everyday essentials. It is precisely this approach that sets the initiative apart from traditional warning systems. The app is designed not to convey preparedness in an abstract way, but to integrate it into everyday life. Recommendations on stockpiling, for example, can be put into practice directly whilst doing your regular shopping. This makes crisis preparedness more accessible, practical and tangible.
Digital solutions are becoming part of modern safety
Andreas Hanger, President of the Austrian Civil Protection Association, also sees this as an important step: “We see every day that it is not information that is lacking, but its concrete application. The new civil protection app closes precisely this gap: it makes dangers understandable and clearly shows how to prepare and behave correctly in an emergency.”
