For many of the participants, the Voluntary Environmental Year is an opportunity to explore new paths after school, an apprenticeship or during their studies and to further their personal development. Some use it for professional orientation or to bridge waiting times between training programmes. However, many young men also complete the environmental year as a substitute for community service.
Young adults are committed to the environment and climate protection
The work at proHolz Oberösterreich is varied and offers volunteers an insight into different areas of work in the forestry and timber industry and its associations. An important aspect of this is promoting the sustainable use of wood as a building material. This is because wood is not only a renewable raw material, but can also help to reduce CO2 emissions, as it is an environmentally friendly alternative to energy and resource-intensive materials.
From school to the countryside
The activities within the scope of the Voluntary Environmental Year are wide-ranging and range from supporting events and press work to organising workshops and supervising exhibitions. The demands on the volunteers are correspondingly high. In addition to basic knowledge of wood and a positive attitude towards the forestry and timber industry, communication skills, reliability and an independent way of working are essential. A willingness to travel in the Upper Austria region and possession of a B driving licence are also required.
The Voluntary Environmental Year at proHolz Oberösterreich offers young people the opportunity not only to do something good for the environment, but also to gain valuable experience and develop personally. It is a chance to actively help shape the future and make a positive contribution for future generations.
