Throughout the year, over 150 art and cultural projects can be experienced across the Salzkammergut - we would like to share some highlights from the programme with you.

The Capital of Culture 2024 is something very special: in the course of its 37-year history, the Salzkammergut will be the first region to join forces to become the Capital of Culture - a total of 23 municipalities in the federal states of Upper Austria and Styria are taking part.

The range of art and cultural projects that can be experienced throughout the Salzkammergut this year is correspondingly varied and broad. We will be sharing selected excerpts and highlights from the programme with you at regular intervals.

Programme highlights of the Capital of Culture 2024

  • SOLANGE #29: "SOLANGE" is a dialogue-based art project in public space that aims to raise awareness and draw attention to inequalities. The project can be seen until 1 April 2024 on the eastern façade of the post office building in Bad Ischl.
  • 23 x Salzkammergut on a platter: The exhibition in the Gmundner Keramik Manufaktur - Gmundner Erlebniswelt, which can be visited until 30 March 2024, shows 23 plates designed by the painters of the Gmundner Keramik Manufaktur. They were inspired by 23 museum artefacts from the collection of the province of Upper Austria, which relate to the 23 municipalities of the European Capital of Culture.
  • Music machine: Traditional instruments such as the zither or hammered dulcimer meet contemporary electronic music, which is played by a kind of musical robot via an intuitive interface. The music event can be visited at the Lehár Theatre in Bad Ischl until 20 April 2024.
