Carpooling is an ideal way to reduce the volume of traffic - and the Bregenzerwald now wants to focus more on this. The volume of traffic here is sometimes very high, and most cars in Vorarlberg are occupied by just one person, according to a survey by the state. The smartphone app "vlow" should make it possible to offer or search for carpooling opportunities for short distances of up to 50 kilometres. The app works in a similar way to the well-known online transport service Uber.
"vlow" takes care of the billing
"vlow" not only makes it easier to search for and find car pools, but also to invoice them. Carpoolers are charged a fee of around 15 cents per kilometre. In addition, "vlow" charges a maximum commission of 15 per cent. The "vlow" account can be topped up before the journey using an ATM/debit or credit card. Drivers are credited with the contribution to their journey costs directly after starting their journey, minus a transaction fee consisting of a fixed contribution of 50 cents plus five per cent of the total amount. These proceeds will be used to finance the app and its further development.
App offers security through registration
Both passengers and drivers must register in the app using their mobile phone number and bank details. The vehicle can also be registered. In the event of an accident, passengers are covered by normal motor vehicle liability insurance. In the opposite case, private liability insurance usually steps in.
Carpooling saves resources
Regardless of whether you are travelling to work, shopping or hiking, there are numerous advantages to carpooling: It reduces the volume of traffic and thus lowers the environmental impact, reduces costs for individual carpoolers and strengthens togetherness.
The "vlow" app was developed by the two Bregenzerwald residents Patrick Schedler and Stefan Türtscher and is supported by REGIO Bregenzerwald.
