St Mary’s Cathedral in Linz is one of Upper Austria’s most significant landmarks and has dominated the cityscape for over a century. As Austria’s largest church, this imposing building not only attracts visitors from all over the world, but is also a place of gathering, reflection and cultural identity for many residents of Linz.

The ornate stained-glass windows, in particular, lend this Neo-Gothic building its distinctive atmosphere and make the cathedral a unique example of sacred architecture.

Responsibility for a historical legacy

However, preserving a building of this size and historical significance is an ongoing task. Weather, environmental pollution and the passage of time leave their mark on the stone, roof and windows. To ensure that St Mary’s Cathedral can continue to stand in all its splendour in the future, ongoing restoration and maintenance work is necessary. The association “Pro Mariendom – OÖ Dombauverein” has been committed for many years to preserving this cultural heritage and supporting the necessary projects. The association relies on individuals and businesses who take responsibility for the region and wish to contribute to the preservation of the cathedral.

Sonnleitner supports the restoration of a cathedral window

A recent example of this commitment is the Linz-based car dealership Sonnleitner. Under the motto “From Linz for Linz”, the company is supporting the restoration of one of the cathedral’s ornate stained-glass windows, thereby sending a visible signal of its regional commitment.

Wolfgang Sonnleitner explains: “As a family-run business based in Linz, it is also a matter of great importance to Sonnleitner to support the association and the preservation of St Mary’s Cathedral. That is why we are delighted to support the maintenance of the cathedral by covering the restoration costs for one of the ornate stained-glass windows.”

#schongenial, because this commitment shows just how closely economic responsibility and cultural awareness can be linked.

It's nice to see so many positive things:
