Disabled sport has a long tradition in Austria and is becoming increasingly important. Around 5,000 people are organised in the Austrian Disabled Sports Association (ÖBSV), spread across almost 100 clubs.

The programme ranges from grassroots to elite sport: whether wheelchair basketball, swimming, winter sports or athletics - the variety of disciplines is huge. National championships not only provide a stage for outstanding performances, but also for inclusion, visibility and the promotion of young talent. Year after year, athletes with disabilities show that top sporting performances are not a question of physical limitations, but of ambition, training and passion.

Competing in extreme weather conditions

The Austrian State Championships in athletics for people with disabilities held at the University Sports Centre Salzburg/Rif at the end of August provided an impressive example of this. A total of 72 athletes competed in running, throwing, jumping and jumping events - including 20 athletes from BSV BBRZ Linz. The first day was a real test of patience: pouring rain and difficult conditions demanded everything from the participants. On the second day, things turned around: bright sunshine, a perfect course - and ideal conditions for top performances.

Record results for the BSV BBRZ Linz

The weekend turned out to be a historic success for BSV BBRZ Linz. With 18 state championship titles, 9 silver and 6 bronze medals, the club was the most successful team of the entire championships. Multiple winners such as Gregor Knogler (800m, 1500m, 5000m), Michi Steiner (shot put, discus, javelin) and Jana Engleder, who not only won gold in the 400m but also set a new Austrian record, particularly shone. Another highlight: the victory of the 4x100m men's relay team with Nico Bucher, Patrick Schmid, Oliver Berger and Philip Hulea.

More than medals: living team spirit

In addition to the sporting successes, it was above all the team spirit that impressed. Mutual cheering, support and the tangible enjoyment of the sport made the championships a special experience. The BSV BBRZ Linz not only made sporting history, but also showed how strong team spirit, motivation and passion can help people grow beyond their limits. We think this is #schongenial and congratulate all the athletes on their achievements.
