Mental illness in one of the parents places an enormous burden on the entire family. However, children and adolescents are particularly affected. They often lack the words, guidance and security they need to deal with the situation. This is precisely where elco/kico, a project of pro mente Upper Austria, comes in. The programme is aimed at families with (parts of) parents suffering from mental illness and pursues a clear goal: to enable children to grow up healthily, even if everyday family life is characterised by challenges.

Support that works for children and parents

elco/kico is a professional counselling and coaching service that focuses on the whole family. The staff support adults in explaining mental illness in an age-appropriate way, reducing insecurities and taking children's needs seriously. At the same time, existing resources within the family are strengthened in order to build stability and trust. For children and young people, this means one thing above all: they realise that they are not alone and that there are ways to deal with difficult situations.

The work of elco/kico creates spaces for dialogue, understanding and relief. And often has a preventative effect. After all, early support can reduce long-term stress and have a positive impact on young people's development.

Long-standing partnership with responsibility

Sparkasse Oberösterreich has been a reliable partner for this important project for many years. The long-term support makes it possible to accompany families continuously and to secure the programme in the long term. For Herbert Auer, Chairman of the Management Board of Anteilsverwaltung Sparkasse Oberösterreich, elco/kico is a project close to his heart: "Families who are particularly challenged by mental illness need reliable support. Here they receive support, guidance and the feeling that they are not alone in difficult situations. It is very important to me that we, as the Share Management Sparkasse Oberösterreich, can strengthen this initiative in the long term."

#schongenial when successful companies help to make programmes like elco/kico possible.
