Adult Austrians volunteer to sponsor unaccompanied minors and young adult refugees free of charge in order to give them a sense of security, safety and acceptance and to make it easier for them to settle into a new world with concrete support. The long-term relationship between the sponsor on the one hand and the young person on the other takes centre stage.
This model shows in a particularly beautiful way that the sponsors also gain a great deal of cultural experience through the intensive dialogue with their "sponsored children". Preconceived images and opinions can be revised and many prejudices can be overcome. The sponsors are not left alone in their task. "Connecting People" trains the mentors and is available to support them.
