For fire brigades, youth work means ensuring the operational readiness of the future. For society, it means that a generation is growing up that lives cohesion and shows civil courage. And every year, the major competitions prove anew that this also creates fun, friendships and unforgettable experiences.
Pure excitement at the national competition in Weiz
The competition weekend on 22 and 23 August in Weiz, Styria, provided an impressive example of this. At the 25th Federal Fire Service Youth Competition, the 58 best youth groups from all over Austria came together. After a festive opening with a grand march-in on the main square, it was time to get down to business in the stadium: obstacle exercises and a 400 metre relay race demanded everything from the youngsters - speed, skill and perfect teamwork.
The atmosphere in the stadium was exuberant, the hospitality of the city of Weiz was top-notch, and in the end one province in particular rejoiced: Upper Austria. With Winden-Windegg, St. Martin im Mühlkreis and Allerheiligen/Lebing, all three podium places in the mixed groups went to Upper Austria. The province also proved its strength in the girls' competition: Mitteregg-Haagen/Sand won ahead of Hollenthon (Lower Austria) and Wagrain (Salzburg).
#schongenial: Youth firefighting means much more than competition. It brings young people together, teaches perseverance and gives them moments they will never forget.
