Caritas Upper Austria's "Reverse Advent Calendar" makes it easy to consciously do good in December. Instead of opening a door every day and taking something out, the Advent season is used to make a daily contribution by collecting donations that benefit people affected by poverty at the end of the month.

Whether at home, together with the family, in the office or as a school class: every participation helps people in Linz who are in a particularly difficult life situation. The donations collected can be handed in at the social counselling service, the refugee aid centre, the warming centre, the Help-Mobil or the Lerncafé.

Small gifts with a big impact

Everyday necessities are collected: non-perishable food, hygiene products or detergents and all other products that many people are currently worried about because their household budget is tight.

But the need goes even further: gas cartridges, warm gloves, bonnets, socks and sleeping bags are also needed in the warming centre and at the Help-Mobil, where homeless people are supported. Children at the Lerncafé are also happy to receive small gifts such as trail mix, softballs, glue sticks or even cinema vouchers.

Cornelia Birklbauer, head of the Caritas social counselling service in Linz, also emphasises the importance of this campaign: "The persistently high prices hit those who have to turn over every euro twice anyway the hardest. Every single donation helps to provide some relief and appreciation."

#schongenial, when Advent suddenly becomes not only contemplative, but also meaningful.

It's nice to see so many positive things:
