The Großglockner Mountain Run is more than just a running event!

On 7 July 2024, the breathtaking backdrop of the Grossglockner massif will once again be the setting for an extraordinary sporting event, as the Grossglockner Mountain Run is part of the Mountain Running World Cup this year. With a challenge of 1,265 metres in altitude and a distance of 13.67 kilometres, this run is considered one of the most demanding mountain running events in the world.

Mountain Running Extreme

The running event takes place over three days and begins on 4 July 2024. The event, which was previously known as the Großglockner Mountain Run, has now been held for 24 years. With a relaunch in 2023 and the renaming to Großglockner Mountain Run, the event gained new momentum and international attention.

An extensive supporting programme

The Großglockner Mountain Run also offers much more than just running competitions. A summer concert, an ibex hike in the Hohe Tauern National Park and a business talk enrich the programme and make the event an experience for the whole family.

Großglockner Mountain Run as an Austrian highlight

In addition to the sporting aspect, the numerous economic benefits of such events for the region also stand out. The Grossglockner Mountain Run generates around 5,000 additional overnight stays. The international coverage and the images shared by the participants help to increase the region's tourism potential and expand year-round tourism.

A total of 13 races are part of the Mountain Running World Cup, but the Großglockner Mountain Run stands out as a particular highlight. With its unique route, impressive panorama and challenging topography, this run offers athletes an unrivalled experience.
