Volontariat.at opens doors to new worlds

appreciation, making positive things visible, already ingenious

In a world characterised by diversity and cultural enrichment, many people are looking for opportunities to think outside the box. One such opportunity is volunteering, a voluntary and unpaid social assignment made possible by the "VOLONTARIAT bewegt" programme. This programme enables young adults to work in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe, where they spend 10-12 months living in solidarity with the local people and getting to know the social situation in their country of assignment.

Make a difference

Participants in the volunteer programme have the unique opportunity to get to know other realities of life and find new perspectives for their own lives through their active involvement in projects run by the Salesians of Don Bosco or the Don Bosco Sisters. They actively support disadvantaged children and young people and become ambassadors for their cause.

A journey of change

Applications for the volunteer programme are submitted online via the Volontariat.at website. After an invitation to an information and selection day, a joint decision is made as to whether the applicant can prepare and carry out an assignment. A minimum lead time of six months is required before starting the assignment, and preparatory courses are offered twice a year. During the assignment, the volunteers support a Don Bosco social project for 10-12 months, mainly in the area of child and youth work. Their tasks can be varied, from looking after children and young people to organising and accompanying leisure activities and supporting teachers in the classroom.

Part of a global movement

VOLONTARIAT bewegt is an initiative of Jugend Eine Welt and the Salesians of Don Bosco, which is based on the pedagogy and work of the youth patron and social pioneer Johannes Bosco. The Salesians of Don Bosco are a Catholic religious order that runs facilities and programmes for the education and training of children and young people in 130 countries around the world. Jugend Eine Welt is an independent organisation that supports Don Bosco projects worldwide.

Overall, volunteering offers a unique opportunity for young adults to develop personally, get to know new cultures and make a valuable contribution to society.
