When old glasses open up new opportunities

Sight is a key to education, work and social participation - but for millions of people worldwide, this access is often denied without suitable glasses.

Children are unable to follow lessons, adults lose their job opportunities and many are restricted in their everyday lives. A simple visual aid is often enough to significantly improve quality of life and future opportunities.

Lions International: Helping with vision

To combat this problem, Lions International has launched the "Glasses for Developing Countries" campaign. Volunteers collect used spectacles, which are cleaned, sorted and given the right strength in special recycling centres. Specialists then distribute the refurbished glasses free of charge to children and adults in need in various countries. In this way, every donation not only provides better vision, but also opens up new possibilities in everyday life. Glasses that can no longer be used are professionally recycled; the proceeds additionally support charitable projects.

Oberösterreichische Versicherung supports the collection campaign

Oberösterreichische Versicherung has also been supporting this valuable initiative for more than 10 years. A conspicuous yellow collection box is now once again available at the General Head Office in Linz, where employees can drop off their glasses that are no longer needed - be they optical sunglasses, reading glasses or distance glasses. This campaign was initiated in-house by Manfred Haberfellner, the former head of the brokerage service. To this day, he ensures that the donated glasses are forwarded to the right place.

"This collection campaign shows how easy it is to make a big impact with small gestures. Used glasses do good and give people all over the world new opportunities," emphasises CEO Otmar Nagl.

#schongenial, when a small contribution from each individual results in a large, shared benefit for many people around the world.

It's nice to see so many positive things:
