Happiness through volunteering
Thomas Stark, a Protestant pastor and Red Cross volunteer, shares his experiences. He has been part of the Red Cross team since 2007, first as an emergency counsellor and later as a paramedic. For him, helping others is an inner motivation. His commitment not only offers a meaningful activity, but also enriches his life. Stark emphasises that happiness for him is when everything turns out well and the people around him are healthy.
A source of satisfaction
The OÖ. Red Cross emphasises that social commitment has a positive impact on people on various levels. Studies show that volunteering can lead to more happiness, better health and greater stress resistance. These positive effects are explained by the activity theory, which states that people maintain social relationships or establish new ones through their involvement.
President Dr Aichinger Walter emphasises the importance of taking responsibility and promoting the common good in order to find true happiness. He encourages people to get involved in various areas such as the rescue service, visiting service, youth work or other Red Cross activities.
The World Day of Happiness reminds us that true happiness can often be found in selflessness and service to others. The OÖ. Red Cross encourages everyone to make a contribution and be part of a community that works for the good of all. Because as the saying goes: Happy is he who brings happiness to others.
