The Austrian Savings Banks Association’s “CIVITAS Award” is dedicated each year to social responsibility. The award recognises projects run by savings bank foundations and share management organisations that actively promote the common good through their commitment. The aim of the award is to highlight how profits are meaningfully reinvested – specifically where they make a real difference: in education, social initiatives, social cohesion and environmental protection.

Once again this year, numerous innovative projects were recognised with awards. The range of projects spanned from digital financial literacy initiatives to sustainable environmental projects and social support programmes. Overall, the entries impressively demonstrated just how diverse and effective regional engagement can be.

A strong signal for environmental awareness

Among the approximately 30 entries in the ‘Environment’ category, Anteilsverwaltung Sparkasse OÖ successfully held its own and secured third place. In doing so, it sent a strong signal for sustainable action and long-term responsibility.

The award-winning “Ackern” project impressed the jury with its practical approach and its direct impact on young people. It demonstrates that environmental awareness cannot be conveyed solely through theory, but arises above all through personal experience. This is precisely where Sparkasse OÖ’s commitment comes into play.

“Ackern” project on the podium

How does the cucumber actually end up in the salad? This seemingly simple question forms the starting point for a project that reconnects children and young people with nature. In collaboration with the Acker Österreich initiative, the “GemüseAckerdemie” project cultivates dedicated plots of land at schools and nurseries.

There, young people experience first-hand how food is produced and the role that sustainable practices play. They learn to take responsibility, develop an awareness of healthy eating and recognise the value of nature and resources.

Sustainable educational initiatives such as this are more than just projects for Anteilsverwaltung Sparkasse OÖ. For Herbert Auer, Chairman of the Board at Anteilsverwaltung Sparkasse OÖ, they are a key priority: “Increasing young people’s appreciation for food and healthy eating is very important to us. That is why we are very proud to support the ‘GemüseAckerdemie’ run by ‘Acker Österreich’. The award confirms once again how important sustainable educational initiatives are for our society and motivates us to continue this commitment in the future.”

The success at the CIVITAS Award thus underlines not only the quality of the project, but also the lasting impact of regional engagement. #schongenial offers its warmest congratulations on this success.
