An idea worth imitating to save food

Too Good To Go, Maximarkt, food waste, food rescue

Food waste is a global challenge that affects the environment, the economy and society. The Too Good To Go initiative, which was founded in Denmark in 2015, shows that these challenges also present opportunities.

The idea behind the app is simple: surplus food from restaurants and supermarkets is offered in the form of surprise packages. Customers can order and collect these via the app at a reduced price. This not only saves food, but also money - a win-win situation for everyone involved.

This approach has enabled Too Good To Go to inspire many companies and consumers to adopt a more sustainable approach to food in recent years. The initiative has also enjoyed great success in Austria - thanks in part to the collaboration with Maximarkt.

Maximarkt and Too Good To Go - a strong team for our food

Maximarkt has been working with Too Good To Go since December 2022, sending a clear signal in favour of sustainability. With the motto "Together we are food savers", Maximarkt is demonstrating its focus on the responsible use of resources.

In Maximarkt shops, customers can buy products such as bread, pastries and cakes from the previous day that have been left over in the maxi.backstube and the bread and pastries department. These foods are packed in colourful surprise packages and offered via the Too Good To Go app. Ordering is easy: customers can reserve available parcels in the app, collect them from the shop and make a contribution to food rescue at the same time.

The cooperation has been expanded since April 2023: maxi.restaurants are also taking part in the campaign. Here, high-quality dishes that would have originally cost at least 15 euros are available in surprise packages for just 4.99 euros. The offer is aimed at anyone who not only wants to save food, but also save money in the process.

Sustainability that pays off

The collaboration between Maximarkt and Too Good To Go is a successful example of how companies can actively combat food waste. Customers benefit from delicious products at favourable prices while protecting the environment at the same time.

"Saving food is important to us and we are delighted that we are not only conserving resources with our offers, but can also offer our customers high-quality products at attractive prices. Together, we can make an important contribution to combating food waste and show that sustainability and enjoyment go wonderfully well together," emphasises Managing Director Thomas Schrenk.
