Arbing meets Africa: Education for children in western Kenya

Engagement, Education, NGO, Arbing meets Africa

The non-profit school "Arbing School Kamobo" in western Kenya was founded by parents in 2014 to create an alternative to the overburdened state school system. With the support of the NGO "Arbing meets Africa", the school has grown from 40 pupils to over 360.

The founders' vision is to offer "affordable, high-quality education". Parents continue to make a financial contribution through low school fees, while children from socially disadvantaged families receive relief. These children often come from households where single mothers work as day labourers and have to live on a low income.

In addition to regular lessons, the school also offers remedial lessons to prepare the children for their final exams in the best possible way. Other initiatives include limiting class sizes to 28 pupils, regularly investing in textbooks and providing two to three meals a day. In addition, children with sporting talent are encouraged to take part in running. The aim of the project is to have the operating costs of the school borne by the local community in the long term. A roadmap up to 2028 has been developed for this purpose.

The "Arbing meets Africa" association, led by Heinz Wegerer, was awarded the Eduard Plier Prize in 2021 and the Lions Sustainability Award in 2022 for its commitment.

It's worth taking a look at the association's website!

#It's amazing what great initiatives are launched and successfully supported by Austrians. It is also very nice that such initiatives are also supported by the service clubs, as in this case by Rotary Linz Donau. An example of partnership in action, a contribution to valuable education. Thank you!
