At the centre is the concept of "suitability for grandchildren", which demands that today's decisions and actions are taken in such a way that they protect and improve the natural foundations of life in the long term.
Shaping a future fit for grandchildren
At a time when the environmental impact of climate change, the destruction of ecosystems and the overexploitation of resources is becoming ever more threatening, ETÖ is an initiative that advocates far-reaching changes. The central idea behind the movement is that people bear responsibility for the legacy they leave to future generations. As part of this responsibility, ETÖ advocates an ecologically sustainable economy and way of life.
A key component of this approach is the promotion of organic farming. This form of agriculture, which does not require the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, not only protects the environment but also guarantees healthy, uncontaminated food. ETÖ is committed to ensuring that Austria continues to expand its pioneering role in organic farming and switches to 100% organic in the long term. This is because sustainable agriculture that is suitable for grandchildren is crucial to preserving soil fertility, biodiversity and the balance of nature.
Protecting our forests and soils
In addition to organic farming, the protection of forests and soils plays a central role in ETÖ's vision. Forests are not only vital carbon reservoirs, they are also essential for biodiversity and the climate. The conservation and sustainable management of forests is therefore another important building block for a future fit for grandchildren. The movement supports measures that promote forest protection and the regeneration of damaged areas in order to safeguard the ecological functions of these important ecosystems.
Soils, as the basis of agriculture and life, are also a focus of the movement. Healthy soils are a prerequisite for the cultivation of food, water filtration and the climate. ETÖ is committed to protecting soils from erosion, acidification and chemical pollution in order to maintain their fertility.
Sustainable economy and circular economy
Another key concern of ETÖ is the promotion of a sustainable economy. Instead of short-term profit-seeking and wasting resources, the movement is in favour of regional economic cycles and fair production conditions. This not only helps to preserve local jobs, but also reduces dependence on global supply chains and minimises the ecological footprint through short transport routes.
A particularly important aspect here is the circular economy. In contrast to the conventional linear economic model, which is based on the production, utilisation and subsequent disposal of products, the circular economy focuses on reuse, recycling and the avoidance of waste. This model significantly reduces the consumption of resources and is a core component of the circular economy.
A task that can only be accomplished together
The goals of ETOE require the commitment of all stakeholders - politics, business and society. While politicians must create the legal framework for a future fit for grandchildren, companies are called upon to integrate sustainable practices into their business models. However, every individual can also make a contribution by making conscious decisions, be it when buying food or saving energy in everyday life.
To achieve these goals, ETÖ promotes dialogue between different interest groups and cooperation between organic farmers, scientists, companies and committed citizens. The movement offers platforms for dialogue and networking in order to jointly develop solutions for the pressing ecological and social challenges of our time.
