This is a significant milestone that emphasises Blåkläder's efforts to act responsibly towards the environment and society. Helmuth Wiesinger, Managing Director of Blåkläder Workwear GmbH Austria, emphasises the importance of this label:
“The Made in Green label gives our customers the assurance that they are purchasing a product that not only meets the highest quality standards, but has also been manufactured under fair and environmentally friendly conditions. This is a central component of our corporate philosophy.”
What does the STeP by Oeko-Tex Made in Green label stand for?
The STeP by Oeko-Tex Made in Green label stands for sustainability along the entire production chain of a textile product. It guarantees that a garment has been tested for harmful substances and has been produced under environmentally friendly and socially acceptable conditions. To receive the label, a product must pass through several certification stages. Firstly, it must comply with the STeP by Oeko-Tex Standard 100, which ensures that it is free from harmful substances. Then the entire manufacturing process is checked in accordance with the criteria for ecological and social sustainability.
The label is clear proof of the internationally successful company's endeavours to produce in a climate-friendly way and at the same time improve working conditions in the production facilities. It also offers complete traceability, giving consumers the opportunity to trace the manufacturing process and supply chain of the respective product.
Sustainability as a central component of the Blåkläder strategy
Sustainability is more than just a buzzword for Blåkläder; it is deeply rooted in the company's strategy. The introduction of the STeP by Oeko-Tex Made in Green label is a logical step in further expanding the company's ecological and social responsibility.
"Sustainability is not a trend, but a necessity," explains Helmuth Wiesinger. "We have to ensure that our products are not only functional and durable, but are also manufactured under conditions that are acceptable for both people and the environment."
Blåkläder has set itself the goal of labelling a large part of its product range with this label in the coming years. In the long term, the company aims to certify its entire range as sustainable.
"We are proud to be going down this path and hope that other companies will follow our example," says Wiesinger.
Control over the production processes
Blåkläder largely controls the production facilities itself. The clothing is manufactured in the company's own factories, which meet strict sustainability and labour standards. Many of these factories are LEED-certified, which takes into account energy efficiency, water consumption and carbon emissions. This certification reflects Blåkläder's commitment to environmentally friendly and efficient production.
Looking to the future
Blåkläder will continue to expand its sustainability efforts to achieve the highest standards throughout the supply chain. As 80 per cent of the climate impact of textiles occurs during the production phase, the company is striving to extend the lifespan of its products even further and make production even more climate-friendly. With the STeP by Oeko-Tex Made in Green label, an important step has already been taken.
