According to the latest Austrian Cancer Report, around 45,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year and around 400,000 people live with a cancer diagnosis. Even though medicine has made enormous progress and cancer has a good chance of being cured, the diagnosis often comes as a surprise to those affected and their relatives. Many feel overwhelmed and discouraged by the situation. But it is often comforting to know that you are not alone in your suffering.
Oberösterreichische Versicherung supports cancer initiatives
Numerous institutions support cancer initiatives to give support to sufferers and their families - including Oberösterreichische Versicherung AG. From (retired) employees to customers and management - it is important to the company at all levels to help people facing difficult fates. This is demonstrated by the donations collected at the annual Christmas parties, which benefit people in need. This year's initiative is to support the Kumplgut, an adventure farm for children with cancer and serious illnesses. The discussions in the run-up to the event were already very moving. At the Kumplgut, the aim is to help seriously ill children to regenerate in a relaxed environment after their hospitalisation, to give children courage again and to regain their childlike carefreeness.
Kathrin Kühtreiber-Leitner, CEO of Oberösterreichische Versicherung AG and ambassador for Pink Ribbon, is also keen to support the fight against cancer. On her birthday, she asked for donations for Austrian Cancer Aid instead of gifts. The company is also working on a new image. Used advertising materials are therefore offered for sale at an in-house flea market and the proceeds are also donated to the cancer charity.
These initiatives have raised a lot of donations. Othmar Nagl, General Director of Oberösterreichische Versicherung, also doubled this sum! At an internal presentation on the topic of cancer prevention, the company was therefore able to hand over a total of EUR 8,000 to Maria Sauer, Managing Director of Österreichische Krebshilfe in Upper Austria.
