The food bank saves 1,000 tonnes of food

For the first time, over one million kilograms of food were rescued last year and more than 35,000 people in need were supplied with it.

At a time when inflation is pushing up the cost of living and more and more people are reaching their limits, Tafel Austria plays a crucial role in providing free food aid in over 100 social organisations.

Tafel Austria is doing record work

The increasing demand for free food has presented Tafel with major challenges. However, thanks to the unprecedented commitment of 257 volunteers and increased co-operation with various stakeholders, it was possible to cover a large part of the increased demand. Over 1,000 tonnes of edible food was saved and distributed to mother and child homes, homeless shelters and women's refuges, among others.

Alexandra Gruber, Managing Director of Tafel Austria, emphasises the increasing urgency of her mission: "Never before has our help been needed so much - and never before have we had to fight so hard for our mission." She thus emphasises the increasing need for free food aid and the necessity of meeting this need.

Saving food, changing lives

Over the past 25 years, Tafel Austria has established itself as a pioneer and innovator in raising awareness against poverty, hunger and food waste with numerous projects and initiatives. In addition, more than 17,000 hours of voluntary work have been performed.
