Using repair as an opportunity

Auto Sonnleitner, battery repair, repair of high-voltage batteries

With the increase in electric vehicles, the handling of high-voltage batteries is also one of the key issues for the future. These batteries are technically sophisticated, raw material-intensive and expensive to manufacture. If they break down, this is not a catastrophe, but a technological and logical challenge that requires sustainable answers.

Instead of disposing of defective batteries immediately or replacing them at great expense, innovative companies are focussing on repairs, proving that e-mobility can also be economical and environmentally friendly in the long term.

Auto Sonnleitner: a pioneer in battery repair

Sonnleitner provides a particularly strong example at its site in Leonding. A dedicated battery repair centre was opened there in 2018. In this highly specialised facility, high-voltage batteries are professionally diagnosed, dismantled and repaired.

The repair process takes place in a shielded high-voltage work area with state-of-the-art safety precautions: Automated access system, special protective clothing, insulated tools and trained personnel. Instead of replacing the entire battery, only the modules that are actually affected are replaced - a resource-saving and efficient approach.

Quick help - lasting effect

In many cases, a damaged battery can be restored and reused in the vehicle in just 24 to 48 hours. Customers not only benefit from lower costs, but also from a solution that extends the service life of their vehicles - in line with a functioning circular economy.

Sonnleitner is also thinking ahead: together with partners, it is working on concepts for how decommissioned but still functional batteries can be used as stationary power storage units for PV systems, for example - a second life for valuable technology.

It's nice to see so many positive things:
