"We are there for people when they need help!" - the two live by this motto with conviction. For Jakob, it's a taster day in the rescue service, for Irene it's already a lived part of her everyday life.
From first aider to pioneer in the family
The mother of three decided to volunteer at the age of 50 - triggered by a serious road accident in which she happened to be providing first aid.
"I originally just wanted to brush up on my first aid knowledge, but ended up booking the whole programme,"
she says with a smile. Her efforts made an impression: Jakob is currently training to become a paramedic and is planning his community service with the Upper Austrian Red Cross. Red Cross. His 15-year-old sister is also considering completing a voluntary social year.
"It's nice to share a common passion with the children,"
says Irene.
Helping connects generations
Volunteering like that of the Gruber family ensures that the Upper Austrian Red Cross can provide services that would otherwise not be possible. Red Cross that would otherwise not be possible - from rescue services and social projects to youth work. Those who get involved experience solidarity, purpose and personal development - and become part of a strong community that counts in every situation.
We think it's #schongenial when volunteering becomes a family cause - especially on Mother's Day.
