The fire brigade, a state-of-the-art training facility

State fire brigade schools, training

When you think of the fire brigade, you have very specific images in your head. Blue lights, conflagration, environmental disasters such as floods, masses of snow or spectacular accidents. What you don't realise is that these operations require constant training along sophisticated and differentiated training plans.

The nine state fire service schools (LFS) in Austria play a central role in disaster control and in Austria's security structure. As training centres for firefighters, they take on the responsible task of preparing the emergency services for the diverse and often life-threatening challenges in an emergency. Not only is theoretical knowledge taught here, but above all practical skills are trained that can make all the difference in an emergency. They see themselves as centres of excellence that use innovative and modern teaching methods to train firefighters to become experts in the fields of firefighting, hazardous materials management and other specialised areas of operation. Particular emphasis is placed on realistic training, which ensures that the emergency services are prepared for every conceivable situation and can guarantee the safety of the population in an emergency. The close networking with district training courses also makes it possible to offer further training close to home and thus ensure that the emergency services have comprehensive and up-to-date qualifications.

An educational programme that is of great social value

The LFS in Upper Austria offers an extensive programme of courses, which are held both at the school site and in the form of external courses in the districts. In 2023, 230 courses took place at the school site, with 8,013 participants completing a total of 17,179 participant days. In addition, 86 external courses were organised in various districts, in which 3,747 participants took part with a total of 8,857 participant days. These impressive figures emphasise the importance of this training institution and demonstrate the high standard of training of firefighters throughout Austria. Knowledge and skills that the participants take with them into their everyday and professional lives.

#It is #schongenial that 32% of volunteer hours are spent on training and education.

It's nice to see so many positive things:
