The answer was found in the fourth edition of the "Ingenious Wood Day", organised by proHolz Tirol. The Höhere Technische Bundeslehranstalt in Imst opened its doors to around 220 pupils from neighbouring secondary schools in mid-April. At 20 stations, the participants were introduced to the world of planning, woodworking and forestry, all in competition mode to demonstrate their manual skills.
The Ingenious Wood Day 2024
The energy and passion were palpable when the youngsters were finally able to get their hands on the planes, drills and saws. The school grounds and workshops at HTL Imst were transformed into a vibrant woodworking paradise, where traditional hand tools stood next to ultra-modern, computer-controlled machines for wood production. The motto of the day was "creative - constructive - innovative", and teachers and students from the HTL were on hand to offer help and advice to the young talents from the secondary schools.
Outstanding winners
Hard work pays off, and that was clear at the end of the day. Classes 3b and 3c of the Prutz-Rietz secondary school secured 1st place and prize money totalling 300 euros. The prizes were presented by proHolz Tirol board members Manfred Saurer and Kurt Ziegner, the provincial guild master of timber construction Simon Kathrein and the deputy provincial guild master of carpenters Christian Pienz. Class 3b from Reutte Untermarkt secondary school was also delighted to take 2nd place and 200 euros, while Class 3b from Sölden secondary school took home 3rd place and 100 euros. The winnings will be saved in the class fund for the next school trip.
