At Hagenberg primary school, this is exactly what is being realised with the innovative digi.case approach.
Primary school pupils on a journey of discovery into the digital world
Committed primary school teacher Martina Ketterer-Hager emphasises the importance of children learning how to use digital media at an early age. The digi.case, a media package that provides both analogue and digital material for lessons, is a key tool for her.
From scissors and paper to bits and bytes
In this concept, pupils are gently introduced to computer science and logical thinking as well as creative problem solving through twelve strategy games. The process begins with analogue tasks using traditional tools such as scissors, glue and paper. These problems are then solved digitally. This holistic approach not only teaches pupils important skills for the future, but also opens up new approaches to science subjects right from primary school.
The key to the future
Originally launched as a pilot project, the digi.case is now to be introduced at every primary and special school in Austria from the current school year until 2025/26. This marks a significant step in Austria's educational landscape by giving all pupils the opportunity to carefully approach digitalisation.
