The beginnings and motivation
In the 1990s, the need to deepen knowledge about agriculture and food was recognised. The so-called "product utilisation courses" were opened up to interested consumers in order to raise awareness of regional products and healthy nutrition.
Comprehensive training for competent advice
Since 1993, women farmers have been able to train as "seminar farmers" on an LFI certificate course. In 154 teaching units, they acquired the necessary specialist knowledge, personal skills and organisational expertise. Since then, 1,134 farmers have expanded their qualifications in 75 courses. Every year, between 300 and 400 seminar farmers are involved in various events to promote constructive dialogue between consumers and producers.
The diverse fields of activity of the seminar farmers
The fields of activity of the seminar farmers range from providing information at trade fairs, events and in supermarkets to cookery and baking courses and working with children in schools. The top priority is to provide information. Through direct contact, the seminar farmers provide insights into modern agriculture and promote awareness of conscious regional purchasing.
Inspire even the youngest - school projects are very popular
The seminar farmers place particular emphasis on raising awareness among children and young people. They reach around 30,000 pupils every year with theoretical and practical knowledge about Austrian agriculture and food production.
