Indulgence from Austria at Austria House
The end of the Winter Games on 22 February also marked the end of an intensive and successful period at Austria House. On a total of 17 opening days, around 14,000 visitors flocked to the meeting point of the Austrian Olympic family every day.
A slice of Austria awaited the guests there: a total of almost 30,000 pieces of bread and pastries were served during the Games. The Kornspitz was particularly popular: around 6,000 pieces of the original were served. There were also almost 20,000 small pastries, around a tonne of bread and around 4,000 portions of apple strudel and cake.
For many international visitors, this was an enjoyable insight into Austrian bread culture. The aim of the "Olympiabackstube" supported by backaldrin was to bring exactly this feeling of home to Italy and at the same time present the diversity and quality of Austrian baking tradition.
Medals for Austria and the Kornspitz Sport Team
The games were also extremely successful for Austria in sporting terms. Five gold, eight silver and five bronze medals meant a total of 18 medals and thus a repeat of the strong result from the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Conny Hütter's bronze medal in the super-G was a particular highlight. The speed specialist from the Kornspitz Sport Team thus set another milestone in her career. "When an athlete from our Kornspitz Sport Team wins an Olympic medal on the same day and celebrates with us here, it shows how much commitment, trust and cooperation pay off. It's great that she has saved her success for the Upper Austrian evening," says Wolfgang Mayer with a wink on behalf of the management. Anna Andexer also performed strongly, coming ninth in both the sprint and the mass start, underlining her great talent.
Upper Austrian evening as a glamorous highlight
During the Games, Austria House developed into an important meeting place for personalities from the worlds of sport, business, politics and the media. International bakers took the opportunity to see Austrian baked goods and backaldrin's expertise for themselves.
The Upper Austrian evening was a particular highlight. Numerous guests from various sectors came together to celebrate the success of the games and to emphasise Upper Austria's and backaldrin's commitment to Austria House.
It was precisely this #schongenial combination of sporting success, Austrian hospitality and living bread culture that made this Olympic experience something very special.
