Workwear is an indispensable part of any business - whether on construction sites, in workshops or in industry. However, their production is associated with considerable challenges: high energy and water consumption, the use of chemicals and short life cycles that generate a lot of waste. Especially in times when sustainability is a key issue, the question is becoming increasingly urgent: how can workwear be produced in such a way that it does not become a burden on people and the environment?

Renowned manufacturers such as Blåkläder set a good example here and show that quality and sustainability are not mutually exclusive.

Durability as the key to sustainability

Blåkläder has consistently focussed on robust materials and innovative workmanship for decades. Particularly striking is the lifetime guarantee on seams, which ensures that clothing does not have to be replaced after a short time. Triple-reinforced seams are used in areas subject to heavy wear - a technique that considerably extends the service life and makes complaints an exception.

The strategy pays off: Companies that have switched to Blåkläder report a drastic reduction in wear and tear. Instead of having to buy four to five pairs of work trousers per person every year, the average after years of co-operation is now just under two pairs. This not only reduces costs, but also conserves valuable resources.

Transparency and responsibility in production

At Blåkläder, sustainability not only means durability, but also fair and transparent manufacturing processes. 90 per cent of our garments are produced in our own factories, which are certified according to STeP by Oeko-Tex, a standard in which the entire operation is checked for ecological and social sustainability. This standard stipulates requirements for good working conditions, regulated working hours, fair pay, health protection and the absence of child or forced labour. Short supply chains, carefully selected materials and our own production facilities create a high level of control and quality assurance. This makes sustainability an integral part of the corporate philosophy - from the first seam to the finished product.

#schongenial, when durable workwear not only saves costs, but also protects the environment and conserves resources.
