E-mobility reaches the logistics sector

Salzburg Netz, VEGA, energy transition

The energy transition in the transport sector is no longer a project for the future, but an urgent reality. In order to achieve the national climate and energy targets, consistent decarbonisation is necessary - especially in the transport and logistics sector. A key element of this is the development of a nationwide, high-performance charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

A current example shows how this turnaround can be actively shaped: A state-of-the-art infrastructure for hyperchargers was built at the site of the international vehicle logistics company VEGA International Car Transport & Logistic Trading in Siezenheim. A 30 kV transformer station with a capacity of 2500 kVA was built there in a very short space of time. The cable loop extends over around 1000 metres - a considerable technical effort that shows how seriously VEGA Trans is taking the transformation. Six powerful hyperchargers are already in operation, five of them with 300 kW and one with 400 kW. In the final expansion phase, there will be ten charging points.

Electricity grids as the backbone of the transport transition

This infrastructure is made possible by the support of Salzburg Netz GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Salzburg AG, which is making a significant contribution to the expansion of a stable electricity grid in the province. The focus is not only on households and industry, but also on the future of transport.

Investment in infrastructure is an investment in climate protection

"Transport alone is responsible for around 28 per cent of CO₂ emissions in Austria, so we still have a long way to go. We are therefore actively supporting our customers in their commitment to switch from fossil fuels to electricity," says Christina Staude, Managing Director of Salzburg Netz GmbH:

"We are investing around 118 million euros in maintaining and expanding the electricity grid infrastructure this year alone, enabling as many people as possible to play an active role in decarbonisation."

We think such projects are #schongenial because they show how technical progress and climate protection go hand in hand.

It's nice to see so many positive things:
