And suddenly everything was different

Vocational rehabilitation, BBRZ, vocational reorientation, rehab coach, qualification measures

An unexpected accident fundamentally changed Mr H's life. After more than two decades in sales, most recently as a senior employee, he was confronted with a new reality.

A long period of sick leave, a return to a completely different working environment and increasing pressure meant that he had to reorient himself professionally. An amicable dismissal was the first step towards an uncertain future. However, a recommendation from the AMS led him to vocational rehabilitation at the BBRZ - a concept that was previously unknown to him. Today, Mr H. draws a clear balance:

"The BBRZ and vocational rehab are a fantastic thing!"

A change of perspective as the key to success

Redesigning his career path presented Mr H. with the challenge of redefining his own strengths and interests. His affinity for technology and his desire for a varied job were key points of orientation. Personal initiative was required - and so he found an internship in building administration and facility management through personal contacts. He quickly realised that this job not only challenged him professionally, but also gave him pleasure.

His tasks included coordinating and monitoring maintenance and repair work, obtaining quotations and liaising directly with tenants and service providers. A position that required both technical and organisational skills - and in which Mr H. quickly proved his worth. Rehab coach Thomas Harthum accompanied him on this path from the very beginning:

"Mr H. approached his professional reorientation with great initiative. He was open to the process right from the start and actively utilised the opportunities offered by vocational rehab - that was crucial to his success."

A structured concept for a sustainable return to work

After the orientation phase, Mr H. underwent a training programme at the BBRZ that was specifically tailored to his needs. Together with his internship company and his rehabilitation coach, he developed an individual qualification plan that took into account both technical and health aspects.

In addition to the work experience programme at the BBRZ, he completed targeted qualification measures. At the end of the training phase, he was already able to work four days a week in his internship company - a significant advantage for the company, which was able to integrate a committed and capable employee into its team at an early stage.

From qualification to permanent employment - a successful example of professional reorientation

His many years of professional experience, in particular his commercial knowledge and strong communication skills, proved to be valuable resources for his new job. His employer also recognised this: FM4U decided to take Mr H. on permanently after he had completed his training. Rehabilitation coach Barbara Goldgruber-Fitz summarises the success:

"Our job as rehab coaches is to provide impetus and support. Ultimately, however, it is up to the participants themselves to utilise this opportunity. Mr H. has done this in an exemplary manner."

Customised training as a competitive advantage for companies

A key factor in the successful reintegration was the possibility of customised training. Through the BBRZ, the internship company was able to provide Mr H. with further training in precisely those areas that were relevant to his future position - and at no additional cost to the company.

The qualification measures carried out included an electrical engineering seminar and training as a fire safety officer. Thanks to this targeted training, Mr H. was able to start his new role fully operational from day one. Katja Hejtmann, authorised signatory of IVAM Immobilien Verwaltung & Asset Management GmbH, emphasises the benefits for companies:

"Before Mr H. approached us, we had no points of contact with vocational rehabilitation. We quickly realised that this model is a great opportunity. It removes many hurdles for the employer - both organisationally and financially. Thanks to the targeted training, Mr H. was able to work productively straight away."
