From the very beginning, strict quality criteria were applied in order to stand out from the competition - with success.
The potatoes are grown exclusively in the designated area (St. Aegidi, Engelhartszell, Neukirchen/Wald, Natternbach, Diersbach, Kopfing, Vichtenstein and Esternberg). Every year, up to 30 different varieties are tested in the company's own trial garden to test taste, flesh colour and shelf life. Only the best varieties that fulfil these strict requirements are finally approved.
The special thing about Sauwald Erdäpfeln is the natural soil environment: the region's primary rock soils, formed by the weathering of granite and gneiss, contain particularly high levels of potassium, which is crucial for potato cultivation. The farmers also rely on sustainable cultivation methods - potatoes are only cultivated on the same field every four years, and chemical weed control and sprout inhibitors are not used.
